By Air

When you travel to Newfoundland and Labrador by air, you can reach all areas of the province. Convenient schedules and flight times allow you to make travel plans to suit your interests.

Wherever you start your journey, there's a wide variety of international and connector airlines from which to choose...Air Canada, Air Nova, Provincial Airlines, Air Labrador, and WestJet, provide seamless travel to and within the province.

By Ground

Newfoundland and Labrador has a well maintained highway system, and charter motor coach service is available to centre's throughout the island and Labrador region of the province. The Trans-Canada Highway (Route 1) crosses Newfoundland west to east from Port aux Basques to St. John's, a distance of 905 kilometres (543 miles). Secondary highways along the route provide many fascinating, "off-the-beaten-track" side trips.

From the Argentia ferry terminal, the distance to St. John's is 131 Kilometres (78 miles).

The Department of Works, Services and Transportation has installed digital cameras at five weigh scale sites along the Trans Canada Highway, in an effort to provide the motoring public with the most up-to-date road and driving conditions.

The City of St. John's has many taxi operators and a bus system operated by the St. John's Transit Authority. The province is serviced by all of the national car rental agencies.

By Sea

Year-round vehicle and passenger ferry service is provided by Marine Atlantic between North Sydney, Nova Scotia, and Port aux Basques, Newfoundland. Crossing time is 6 hours. This ferry connects with various trans-island bus services.

From mid-June to mid-September, an additional ferry operates between North Sydney and Argentia in eastern Newfoundland, which is 130 kilometres from the provincial capital of St. John's. Crossing time is 12-14 hours.
