Welcome

As Newfoundlanders we know we are a product of this place; rugged and unyielding; fragile and resilient. As a result we care deeply about the preservation of our environment for future generations. At the SJCC our commitment to environmental protection informs our policies, impacts our daily practices and inspires a future we can all be proud of.

Recycling

Our extensive facility wide recycling program recovers a wide variety of materials. All operations participate in our Solid Waste Management Program, separating paper products and blue-bag recyclables from regular refuse. Waste-separation containers are also provided in all public areas of the facility to encourage visitors to recycle.

Food and Beverage

Menus featuring seasonal and local products, all free of trans-fats, are offered
Meals and snacks are presented on porcelain rather than disposable dishware
Refillable water jugs are offered instead of bottled water

Energy Conservation

Within our state of the art facilities, energy conservation is a no-brainer. Steps we have taken include:

  HVAC air filtration system
CO, CO2 and NO sensors monitor indoor and outdoor air quality
  Digital temperature controls
Water-conserving fixtures and equipment help reduce water consumption levels and regulate water temperatures
Energy-efficient lighting, including occupancy sensors throughout the facilities
We purchase green products and equipment.
Stringent protocols are used for safely disposing of hazardous and chemical waste

Located in the heart of one of North America’s most culturally rich cities means that shopping, recreation, nightlife, and gourmet dining are all within a leisurely stroll in the fresh sea air. Eliminating the need for vehicle transportation that contributes to greenhouse gases.
